In Memory

Margaret Crowley (Nurse)

Margaret Crowley (Nurse)

Margaret C. Crowley, 90 of 81 Linden Ave, Rochester, NY passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 29, 2015 at Bridges Cornell Heights.

“Aunt Peg," as she was known to her nieces and nephews (and many others), lived life fully. She had fond memories of travel with friends; her adventures included hiking the Great Wall of China, touring the Swiss Alps, and experiencing the Great Barrier Reef. Peg enjoyed golf with friends, but was all business about Bridge. Playing several times a week, she’d return home with those couple of quarters jingling in her pocket. She spent her winters at Holiday Out in Jensen Beach, Florida, where she was well-known by the community for her quick wit and her knack for gathering people together. In the summers, she resided at Linden Knolls in Rochester, NY, where she had many good friends. A born organizer, she loved to break out her whistle at family functions.

Born in Ithaca, NY, Peg was a 1943 graduate of Ithaca High School and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing, Elmira, NY in 1946. She continued her education in Public Health Nursing at Syracuse University and graduated with a B.S. in Health Education from the University of the State of New York at Cortland in 1963. She was a pioneer in the nurse practitioner field, receiving her degree from the University of Colorado in 1976.

She began her career in Public Health Nursing at the Tompkins County Health Department in 1946 and worked as the School Nurse at Dryden High School from 1954-1957. In 1957, she took a new job as a School Nurse Teacher at West Irondequoit Central High School where she remained until her retirement.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Margaret O’Connell Crowley, her brothers John and Robert Crowley and her sister Helen Crowley Fanning. She is survived by her 11 nieces and nephews Julie Crowley, Sheila Crowley, Karen Crowley, Bobby Crowley, William Fanning, Barbara Fanning-Dowdell, Eileen Fanning, Bob Fanning, Jack Crowley, Alice Crowley Fortier, and Maura Crowley McCoy.

Peg’s family will be forever grateful for the kindness and care she received at Bridges Cornell Heights during her last few days. We will all miss “Aunt Peg."

The funeral service will be held Sunday December 27, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. at St Catherine of Siena Church, 302 St. Catherine Circle, Ithaca, NY.? In lieu of flowers, donations in Peg’s memory can be made to Road Scholar (http://bit.ly/1SAs8n1).
