Richard Schwab (Teacher -English)

Schwab, Richard W.
Montour Falls, NY: Age 81 died peacefully in his beloved 1860 Westover Hills home in Montour Falls on Sunday, April 18, 2010. Mr. Schwab taught high school English in West Irondequoit (Rochester, NY) and was a lover of books, antiques, bronze and marble sculptures and historic houses. He was born in Williamsport, PA. to Arnold and Agnes Mason Schwab on December 30, 1928. He graduated from Honesdale High School Class of '46 and was a member of the Class of '50 at Yale University. He served in the US Air Force from 1949-1952. In 1958 he received a master's degree from Albany University and taught for 27 years. Mr. Schwab restored a Victorian House in Elmira, NY and a Historic Mansion, Westover Hills, in Montour Falls, NY. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Emily Borck Schwab, and three daughters, Jennifer Smouse and Jill Schwab of Rochester, Rebecca (Thomas) Yager of Huntington Beach, CA and two sons, Joel (Valerie) of Fairport, NY and Kurt of Albany, NY. His grandchildren are Kristin and Benjamin Schwab of Fairport, NY, Kathryn and Schuyler Yager of Huntington Beach, CA, Heather Daly (Alvaro Membrillera) of London, U.K. and great grandchildren, Alejandro and Sophia Membrillera of London, U.K. He has a sister-in-law, Marlene (B. Foster) Wetmore of Kensington, CT and Knoxville, PA, several cousins, nieces and nephews and a special family friend, Zahid Butt. Mr. Schwab was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Watkins Glen, NY.
According to his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private inurnment will be at the convenience of his family in the Schwab plot (Third Level) of the Montour Falls Cemetery. Arrangements by Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Montour Falls, NY.
