Jacoby, Barbara Jane

Rochester: Barbara Jacoby passed on October 20, 2011, at High Ridge House in New York City. She was predeceased by her parents, Truman and Ruth Jacoby and brother, Truman L. Jacoby, Jr.. She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Jacoby Mongeon of Garden City, SC and nephew, Michael Mongeon of Atlanta, GA.

Barbara was born and raised in Corning, New York and earned degrees from the University of Rochester and McGill University in Montreal. She taught French and served as the department head at Irondequoit High School. In addition, she was active with many Rochester organizations including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, George Eastman House, Memorial Art Gallery and her neighborhood association. She was a dedicated member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Rochester and volunteered at their Reading Room. She loved to travel and visited nearly every corner of the globe.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 14th at 11AM at Valley Manor, 1570 East Avenue.In lieu of flowers, kindly consider The Truman L. Jacoby Scholarship Fund in her memory, c/o Corning City School District, Jacoby Memorial Fund, 165 Charles Street, Painted Post, New York 14870. The scholarship is for high school graduates from Corning pursuing the field of education.
