William Maxwell (Teacher -English) VIEW PROFILE

Maxwell, William Alan

Pittsford: William Alan Maxwell, former Brighton High School Principal, died Thursday March 22, 2012, losing his brief battle to colon cancer. He lived in Pittsford, New York with his wife Teri. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He is predeceased by his father John Herb Maxwell and his mother Betty Maxwell.

He is survived by his wife Teri, his sister Carol (Mike) Conley, his son Scott Maxwell (Ellison Aldrich), his daughter Jana Maxwell, his son Kevin (Shana) Cutaia, his daughter Kate (Mike) Gruschow and his grandchildren Stella Cutaia and Ellis and Kendall Gruschow.

Bill Maxwell was born in Tonawanda, New York. He attended Kenmore East High School where he was prolific on both the baseball diamond and the football field. Eventually attending SUNY Brockport for his college years. He taught English at West Irondequoit High School for 14 years before transitioning to administration. At Brighton High School he worked as an Assistant Principal for twenty years before taking on the Principal position for the remaining years of his tenure. Mr. Maxwell could be seen assiduously observing the Brighton High School hallways, immersed in expediting the various performing arts programs, in perpetual attendance at the plethora of sporting events, and most notably as a fixture upon the front steps of the High School in the early morning, eagerly greeting the arriving students.

Bill was an avid reader and a sports enthusiast. David Baldacci and James Lee Burke, two of his many favorite writers. He was a golfer, a fisherman and a hunter. A diehard Oakland Raider and Syracuse fan, and he and his wife Teri were perennial attendees at the Locust Hill LPGA.

Most remarkably Bill Maxwell was a loyal husband, proud father and selfless person who always put other people first. He navigated complicated situations with both charm and precision, his magnanimity warmed the hearts of countless lives, whether students, coworkers, both friends and family even each one of the hospital staff at his side in his final days.

He was well respected, well loved and deeply admired. His rubescent cheeks and shining smile will stay singed within all our memories.
