Don grew up in Brighton, graduated from Brighton High School where he excelled in track and soccer.  He received college degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Arts and Education from RIT and SUNY Oswego.  Before pursuing his passion for teaching, Don was called to active duty with the US Navy where he was stationed in San Francisco and Honolulu as a Communication Watch Officer.  Upon completion of his active duty Don returned to the Rochester area where he began his teaching career in the West Irondequoit CSD.  Along with his teaching responsibilities Don also coached the golf team which won numerous County Titles under his guidance.

Don loved to spend time in Maine with Nancy and David while hitting the golf courses as often as he could.  He recorded his only Hole in One on the 17th hole of the York Country Club, York Maine.  Don became quite an accomplished painter later in his years and had received numerous ribbons for his paintings.  He was an active member of the Webster Art group which he was quite proud of.

I enjoyed Mr Green's I.A. classes where he included excellence in what we were doing during class. I will always remeber his teaching. RIP DON

I remember Mr. Green not as a teacher but as a coach. He was my Little League coach the first year we moved back to Rochester. As a father and coach myself these days I know the sacrifices and commitments he made to be our coach. My condolences to Dave and his family.

I remember my senior year making up PE class time. I took his golf class and love it, chipping balls into coffee cans. If the weather was nice he'd let me go out in the field and practice. I was getting really good at it and we'd make bets, get so many in the can and he'd give me class credit to goof off. One day after getting credit I came in anyway and he asked why I came in. I replied I have more fun here than hanging out at the grate. RIP Don Green.

I never had the pleasure of Mr Greens classes but I remember his presence in school as he was very tall and the kids always talked about him.  I'm sure this is where my brother Carl Gurnett "honed" his golf skills from Mr Green!    My sympathies to you Dave and your whole family

Oddly enough, I did not know Don Green as a teacher while I was a student at IHS, instead I knew him as an instructor before and after IHS.

In the first instance my last summer at Dake he taught a 2-week course : Intro to Golf, and after IHS I took his short Auto Maintenance course.  I remember Don Green as knowledgeable, kind, patient, and passionate about the subjects as well as his students.  But mostly I remember him as Dave’s father.

Dave, I am sorry for your loss, I know he was much loved and missed by many.
